A life-long interest in photography led to a formal study of the subject with the Institute of Photography. The experience gained on this course encouraged me to follow up my interest in photography, especially the opportunity to combine my twin passions for photography and music.
An exhibition, In the Moment, features a collection of 15 portraits of jazz musicians - see the photo gallery. I continue to explore other photographic themes and subjects as well, in particular scenes and characters encountered
I am a sax and flute player and composer playing jazz, contemporary and classical music.
Currently I am half of the One + One duo, along with guitarist Eddie Abdullah. As well as that I am a founder member of the Junction Quintet. Both groups play a mix of jazz standards and original compositions.
With singer and song writer Thomas Barnes, I collaborated on composing and arranging original songs for a CD, Waiting for the Thunder. Other credits include writing and performing a signature tune for an Open University series.
I have studied with several notable performers and teachers at different times including classical flute professor Averil Williams and the leading jazz flute player Gareth Lockrane. On sax I studied with Mike Osborne and Tim Garland on sax and continue to learn from association with a range of gifted musicians.
As well as playing jazz, I give occasional classical flute and saxophone recitals of music from Baroque to contemporary composers. I was a member of the Jazz Flute Big Band that featured in the 2016 London Jazz Festival.
Work in progress includes playing and writing for a flute trio and saxophone quartet.
